Just for fun
Since I don't think anyone really knows the history of the Kolareny Colony, I might as well go into it here. I'm not sure how deeply I'll go into it with the books - maybe I'll do one focusing on Lemain and the history of the colony as a side story. Well, anyway, here's pretty much the low-down. (This is all assuming I can get the rights to use the idea of Lloth in the storyline.)
Long before humans existed, the Kolareny colony reigned under the control of the spiderqueen Lloth. The colony was (locally) ruled by Sashine Kolareny, married to Canul. They produced the sisters Shantal and Teshtal. Shantal, being the older, became the heir to the throne. After Canul died, probably killed for insubordination as was common for kings in a Drow colony, Sashine married a man named Merdoni (name probably going to change, as it's crap), with whom Rhia's Aunt was produced. Anyway, back to the heir. After Sashine died, seeing as kings never held the throne if it could be helped (and it could since Shantal was old enough), Shantal took the throne. Shortly after, she married Lemain. Around the same time, Teshtal married Pacerio (a name also subject to change, as it, too, is crap), Lemain's younger brother, and gave birth first to Jason, then to Tereka. During a raid on a Wood elf castle, Teshtal is killed.
It's during this same raid that Lemain comes across Restume, the Wood elf queen, and the affair begins. Seeing as Lemain was never in the spotlight, he could easily slip away and see Restume without problem. Something very fortunate on Lemain's part then began to happen. Just as Restume became pregnant, Shantal fell gravely ill. Now, an ill queen in those days was not something to show off to the colony, as it was believed that Lloth kept the queens in perfect health in order to run the colony until dying of old age. So, Shantal fell into hiding. This, however, was also common of a queen when she was pregnant, not wishing to be seen in such a vulnerable position. It's these rare times that the king then steps up into power, thus Lemain began his reign over the colony. And, just as Rhia was born, Shantal died. So, the story goes that Shantal had become pregnant with Rhia, dying in child birth as was also common in those days. And, seeing as Rhia was much too young to rule, and Tereka hadn't been trained to take the throne, Lemain remained in power.
Lemain was definitely not your typical Drow, as can be seen clearly in the fact that he had an affair with a Wood elf. In fact, he greatly despised Lloth, as was typical of many Drow males, and wished to join ranks with those colonies that had broken free of her control. It was difficult, but it was possible. And, it turns out that the colony had grown very fond of Lemain during the time he was reigning in place of Shantal. They'd gotten a glimpse of what a kind ruler was like, one who took up his share of the load. And so, a century after Shantal had died, when Lemain proposed the schism from Lloth, just about the entire colony agreed. And so, Rhia layed witness to the courage, power, and wisdom of her father, the King, as he led the escape from Lloth's clutches. Using the Underground, and even venturing up onto the Surface, he directed them outside of Lloth's boundaries, her armies not able to catch up in time, and even when they did, they were stamped out by the sheer will of the people to be free. Where they ultimately ended up was in a colony they created under the sea of sand known as the Orient. It was here they settled, free, in alliance with those colonies who were also free, and slowly spreading their borders.
That should be enough for now. It's around then that my first book should pick up... So you'll learn the fate of the colony then. Or, here, later, if I decide to work it out.
